The Secret Life Of Bees Chapter Four Summary

In chapter four Rosaleen and Lily have reached the bee-keepers house and have just asked to come in and talk to august. August's sister June answers the door with a stern look and is very stubborn. August's other sister May also come into the room but she is the complete opposite of June she is sweet and full of life. while waiting for august to come into the room Lily takes in her surroundings and notices that there is a statue of a woman that looks like Black Madonna but she looks like she was attached to the bow of a ship. The woman had a red heart on her chest and had her fist raised in the air giving her a serious look. Lily felt as though the statue knew her, all about her. When august came into the room she asked what she could do for Lily and instead of lying and saying she needed honey she told most of the truth, that she ran away from home and needed a place to stay. Lily also lied and said that her mother died when she was little and her father died in a tractor accident and that was in Tiburon on her way to Virgina to see her aunt. August said that they could sleep in the honey house and as long as they stayed there that they would have to work for them. When Lily and Rosaleen got to the honey house Rosaleen fell asleep on the cot and August showed Lily around the honey house. When Lily asked August what she will be working on August said that she would be working with Zach and her, making the honey. The next day before dinner Lily went walking on a path that she found that lead to a wall that stretched out fifty yards long in the wall she found little pieces of paper she took one out and read Birmingham, Sept 15, four little angles dead. after she put the paper back she kept walking and found a little river and went for a swim.
